The Resonance of Transformation: Exploring Mantras, Sound Healing, and Celestial Connections
In my recent practice, I've been exploring the transformative power of mantras and the healing properties of sound. I previously took the "Sorcery of Hekate" course by Jason Miller, where a significant component involved reciting the Hekate mantra, “IO HEKA IO HO,” each day. In this mantra, "IO" serves as an invocation to many Greek and Roman deities, "HEKA" translates to ‘beyond,’ and "IO HO" initiates a magical flow. By reciting this mantra daily, one connects to the Hekate Mandala, positioning the practitioner at the center, surrounded by Hekate, the Fates, and the Guardians of the Temple.
Throughout the course, I learned about different aspects of the Goddess and her role as a leader among other powers. The Mandala figures can be adjusted based on the practitioner’s goals and the rituals performed. As the operator, being within the Mandala and consistently repeating the mantra links one to the Goddess's power and wisdom.
I also recently finished reading "Healing Mantras" by Verda Harper, which provided clarity on the strength of mantras and highlighted the significance of the mantra used in SOH. It’s fascinating to note that Sanskrit, the foundation of Latin, French, and German, has significantly influenced the development of the English language, making English a complex dialect rooted in Sanskrit. “English and Sanskrit were constructed for very different reasons. English is a tool for communication between others. We use it for directions, receiving information, and expressing emotions. Sanskrit was formed from a combination of syllables that were used to access a higher level of consciousness. In English, each word has a purpose. In Sanskrit, each sound has a purpose.” (Verda, 2020)
Before I started diving into Sanskrit and mantras, I started intuitively adding into my practice before a prayer to the arch angels vibrating and singing, “IAO” then singing the corresponding angels name. I noticed it creating almost like a funnel, tapping into the frequency sphere of that being and creating the tune for the being to come clearer from the liminal space into the physical realm.
I started making my own mala beads, which I loved doing especially after creating my Hekate rosary. I started chanting "Om Shanti Om" each day 108 times for about three months. I chose this mantra because it was easy for me to remember, and I appreciated its meaning. It translates to "Peace be With You." This resonated with the Catholic masses from my childhood, where the priest would say, "Peace be with you," and the congregation would reply, "and also with you." Mantras are known to help with physical ailments, and I can partially vouch for this.
I've dealt with chronic ovarian cysts for most of my life, and typically, they have resolved without significant issues. However, in October 2024, I experienced a cyst that caused me to faint, an occurrence I hadn't faced in over a decade. After my first cyst was when I started my magical path which I was 15 as I started attending acupuncture appointments, exploring spiritual practices, and diving into holistic healing approaches. Acupuncture was pivotal to help heal my cysts and trauma recovery when I was a teenager. I knew that rest, focusing on unblocking chakras, my journey of processing, and adding mantras into my routine would help. The ultrasound revealed I had a 3 cm cyst on my right ovary and if it was any bigger surgery would need to be discussed. My follow up appointment this year revealed that my cyst had completely disappeared. I often say a holistic approach in life is vital but in magical practices as well from my previous article, “A holistic magic approach is equally vital; ritual practices should be complemented by other strategic, tangible efforts. This way, spirit guides will assist in everything falling into place.”
Agrippa dedicates several chapters to sound, specifically the harmonies of the body, soul, and spheres, in Book 2, Chapters 24-28. I found it intriguing that he mentioned how musical frequencies can dispel evil spirits, a concept also highlighted to me by Nicole Gadbois. He wrote, "Musical sounds and singing confirm the health of the body and restore what has been lost, bringing the mind to wholesome manners until one becomes suitable for Celestial Harmony, making them wholly Celestial. Furthermore, nothing is more effective in driving away evil spirits than Musical Harmony, as they, having fallen from the Celestial Harmony, cannot endure any true accord and flee from it. This is exemplified by David, who soothed Saul with his harp when he was troubled by an evil spirit. The ancient Prophets and Fathers, who understood these Harmonic mysteries, incorporated singing and musical sounds into sacred services." In an interview on Strange Talk with Nicole, she shared how Hekate guided her to Sound Healing after her shoulder injury.
After delving deeper into Agrippa's findings on sound, I recognized that he emphasized how Sol and Luna are infused in all things, with music serving as the connection between them. Both Artemis and Apollo are linked through the art of music, with Artemis particularly associated with song, reminding us that our voice is the most powerful instrument we possess. We all have a drop of Sol in use, the divinity, and we can tap into that channel to experience the full divine through sound. Whistling in the woods is also believed to aid in hunting, as the sound can cause animals to freeze and pause.
Sound is also emphasized in the fundamentals of Kabbalah. Kabbalah for Beginners highlights the significance of singing and dancing within esoteric Judaism. Being present and authentic in the moment is crucial. A nigun is essentially a melody sung with a sense of prayerfulness. Rather than using words, you sing on any syllable or combination of syllables. The aim is not to perform; instead, it is about using your voice to express your feelings prayerfully, allowing them to surface and, through this expression, opening yourself further to the sacredness of the moment. Music bridges the inner dimension of our being with the outer world around us, this includes the heavens. “When a musician reads and plays music from the page, we could say that they are involved mostly with the outer dimension of music. A composer, on the other hand, creates music from within themselves, seemingly out of nothing, and is therefore involved with the inner dimension of music.”
Music and sound that emanate from authenticity connect us to the celestial divine. Sound is among the most potent forces in the universe; it played a crucial role in the creation of everything we perceive. Instead of merely “forming” light, God spoke it into existence. Sound existed before creation and manifestation. This concept is emphasized by the fact that everything in the world vibrates at a specific frequency, and these vibrations can significantly influence our bodies and minds. Embracing the power of sound allows us to tap into a deeper understanding of our existence and our connection to the universe.
