Baneful Workings for Justice: The Mirror Box of Consequence with Hekate, the Furies, and the Gorgons

For many years, I was hesitant to delve into justice and baneful workings. It was a mental hurdle I had to overcome. Part of it stemmed from my people-pleasing tendencies, and I never wanted to be perceived as 'mean' or 'bad.' This was definitely due to societal conditioning growing up as a cis woman; you're taught to be nice no matter what, even if you're uncomfortable.

Finally, after starting therapy and my healing journey, I began reclaiming parts of myself through every boundary I set, whether it was at work, with friends, and eventually with my mother, with whom I have been no contact for two years now. You cannot control others, but you can control the access they have to you. I have never been more at peace in my entire life. This work, coupled with getting to know Saturn through ritual workings, has helped me immensely.

Your heart, mind, and solar plexus are the powerhouses of your emotions and creativity. Your mental space is like a garden, an inner world of thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Without the gates and fences set by the boundaries of Saturn, anyone can harm your garden. This was a helpful analogy from the book Your Brain's Not Broken.

Defense is needed, and Saturn is the Ice King, enacting the justice necessary for those who attempt to harm the Kingdom. Saturn is the disciplinary force behind Jupiter and the other planets. The Ringed Planet helps people step into their authority and become true leaders free of self-doubt. My biggest hurdle with boundaries was the self-doubt that followed. Saturn and its icy energy assess the present moment and coolly draw lines in the sand without hesitation because, in the moment, it is what's needed, regardless of the past and future. It is a force of immense power, like wielding thunder and lightning; one that must be directed with precision and strategy. Such is the way of Saturn. To protect your peace and kingdom, one must do what is necessary.

I have transformed my perspective to focus on being kind rather than simply nice. One of the kindest actions I can take for myself is to be selective about who I welcome into my garden and my Kingdom. By opening the gates to those who honor my light and my heart, I find myself more present and at peace in my daily interactions. This shift in mindset has been immensely beneficial, ultimately aiding me in understanding Shadow Magic and engaging with darker forces. Reading the book Of Blood and Bones was immensely insightful.

Initially, I felt fear and intimidation regarding these elements of witchcraft for various reasons. Honestly, it can be incredibly nerve-wracking to visit the crossroads at 3 AM for monthly offerings in general. Channeling spiritual forces for retribution? It can be overwhelming. Being comfortable with my own anger was something I also had to wrestle with as well. I was taught that anger was a "bad" emotion so feeling it meant I was being bad. But emotions exist for a reason; they are inner signals, guiding us through the world with personal truth and insight.

This practice often prompts a deep reflection on my morals, which is something I truly value in Aaron Davis' coursework at the Blackthrone School of Magic. He encourages students to contemplate their values during the first session of the class. Being in tune with your principles helps to steady the sword.

I perceive retribution magic as a means of reclaiming the areas of your Kingdom and garden that have been trampled upon in the past. People have exploited you in various ways, causing harm or damage. Now is the time to restore balance, regain what rightfully belongs to you, your peace of mind, and reclaim your personal power and sovereignty. You're literally reclaiming that space from people who took, hurt, or violated it. It’s the undoing of old cords and taking your power back from past emotional wounds. A reclamation and rebuilding of your Kingdom.

When I first engaged with Hekate Brimo when I was taking Sorcery of Hekate, I spent months contemplating the timing and where to direct the Furies too. When I was prepared for the Confrontation of Brimo, it felt like a form of psychic surgery. I sensed a heightening of my spirit; the experience was profoundly transformative as I entrusted several instances of abuse from my life to the Goddess and the Furies, seeking divine retribution. Later that evening, my dreams shifted to courtroom scenes that morphed into the underworld. The following day, I felt grounded, fatigued, but fully awake as if a wound had been released. Ultimately, I emerged feeling taller and more complete.

This practice was intensive, and I employ this magic with great strategy. Nevertheless, it is absolutely essential. Shadow Magic has been vital to my development as both a person and a magician.

Following the Confrontation of Brimo, I engaged in various actions that aided in navigating my interactions with toxic individuals in my life. While these strategies were calculated, they were also deeply emotional. I sought justice for an abused animal, expressing my anger through tears at my altar. I had an experience at the cemetery where I was shaking and praying to Hekate giving a situation to her. I called upon the Divine for their intervention, fully acknowledging my role as the conductor who brings forth the spirits to assist in this realm. However, I believe that Deities assess what is just. To an extent they possess a different perspective than we do. I am in tune with my values and I would do what I did all over again.

After several justice and return to sender workings, I finally created a mirror box I am incredibly proud of and wanted to share. I used aspects of SOH and the idea of an Appxios bottle as well. I also wanted to create an active, living extension of a Spirit, and like Aidan Wachter's Black Book.

I found a cigar box with a mirror inside of it at one of my favorite stores in Jerome, Arizona a famous ghost town no less. Then I consecrated it with Hekate, the Gorgons, and Furies. Here is the full ritual including the sigil. I also paintings the sigil with red paint and Hekate Oil I made from the instructions in SOH.

Begin by finding a box with a mirror inside. Create your sigil on paper using red paint blended with Hekate oil, then place it within the mirrored box to act as a reflective anchor. Gather objects to represent Hekate, the Gorgons, and the Furies. In a past working, I offered black feathers to the Furies, a Gorgon talisman as their symbol, and a hand-painted stone inscribed with Hekate’s name that was gifted to me. Prepare two candles anointed with Hekate oil, ready to be lit during the invocation. Lay out additional offerings for each force you call upon. My offering included garlic, bourbon, and apples. This ritual is most potent when performed on a Saturday or Tuesday, and especially powerful during the New Moon or while the moon is waning. Begin in silence, breathing deeply, and when you feel the current shift, say aloud:

HEKAS! (light left candle)

HEKAS! (light right candle)

ESTE BEBÄ’LOI!

Let the profane be gone.

Incinerate them with fire.

I call upon Hekate Enodia, Keeper of the Crossroads,

Guardian of the Veil, Torchbearer of Truth,

Stand with me in this sacred hour.

Consecrate this box and mirror by your hand.

Let them reflect all injustice cast against me.

The names inscribed within are offered to you and the spirits of your domain.

May every lie spoken against us spiral back upon its sender,

Stung by the sharp blade of truth—

Not by my hand, but by their own.

Let the harm they intend return to them, magnified and grown.

I call upon the Erinyes, daughters of sacred and righteous wrath:

Alecto, Megaera, and Tisiphone—

Let no false word go unanswered.

Let no harm pass without its rightful return.

Strike them with the fire of retribution;

Burn falsehood from the roots to the crown.

I call upon the Gorgons!

Euryale, Sthenno, Medusa—

Unblinking Watchers, Vessels of Sacred Rage,

Freeze deception in its tracks.

Reflect every misdeed with stone-eyed certainty.

Let truth slice through illusion, and expose what festers beneath.

Let those who avert their eyes be forced to look.

Let those who seek my ruin be frozen by your gaze,

Their venom turned inward,

Their malice devouring only themselves.

By the word and will of Hekate,

My enemies are yours.

So it is spoken.

So it shall be.
